BANV Queen Survival Survey Results

Here are the results of the BANV survey to assess Queen survival from different source (3 years, weighted average) - thanks to Jim Haskell.

1.  Locally produced nucs with resistant queens (LNQr) 87%

2.  Locally produced resistant queens (LQr) 70%

3.  Bee raised queens – emergency, supercedure and swarm (BQ) 65%

4.  Beekeeper produced queens, not selected for resistance (BkQ-nr) 60%

5.  Queens from GA (Q-GA)35%

6.  Locally produced nucs with GA queens (LNQ-GA) 25%

7.  Packages with queen from GA (PkgQ-GA) 20%

DC Beekeepers Meetup

BANV 2012 Membership

The 2012 Membership campaign is now open. Past members and beekeeping class alumni should receive a membership application by post. If you are new to BANV, and wish to join the club, please visit the “Becoming a Member” page for information on how to sign up/pay dues etc.

Closed: 2012 Beginner Beekeeping Class

Great news ! We are allowing more applicants to request spaces due to high demand for the class.

To sign up, please fill the online application.

As long as there are seats available, the class registrar will contact you with details.

Once the class is filled up again, we will add  you to a standby list and contacted if someone drops out of the class.

2012 Beekeeping Class was FULL – Updated

All three beekeeping classes are now filled to capacity.

New applicants will be put in a standby list in case registered students drop off.

Due to high demand, we have re-opened the class registration.

Class start times/locations/teaching staff are listed below.

All members and mentors are urged to attend the first day meet & greet – to welcome our 2012 class!

Announcing “Spring Nuc” Program

In an effort to address and promote honeybee sustainability in BANV, we are working with the club’s queen breeders, teachers, and members to try to coordinate the club’s efforts in the production and distribution of spring nucleus colonies. Pat is looking for some people who would be willing to lead a few small workshops in the following topics–candle making; lib balm, hand cream; creamed honey; etc. (your suggestions). Numbers will be kept small so that people might be handled in home kitchens. Please email Pat directly if you are interested !
